9/11 Truth Outreach Extends Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth’s Debate Challenge to Colleges and Universities

On July 23, 2014, Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth (AE911Truth) announced a $1000 Debate Challenge open to credentialed building professionals. A debate platform would provide an opportunity for said professionals to explain and publicly endorse the National Construction Safety Team Act Report 1A (NCSTAR 1A)—titled Final Report on the Collapse of the World Trade Center Building 7 (WTC 7)—and published in November 2008 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

9/11 Truth Outreach is extending the Debate Challenge to colleges and universities. The Challenge is for $500 and is open to tenured professors in schools of physical science, architecture or engineering to publicly endorse and explain NIST's NCSTAR 1A analysis. Tenured professors who would champion the NCSTAR 1A analysis as technically sound are invited to apply.

Background

Why did AE911Truth issue its $1000 Debate Challenge? AE911Truth founder Richard Gage, AIA, stated that "Ever since 2006, when we started a petition calling for a new, independent investigation of the WTC destruction on 9/11, detractors have claimed that the 'small minority' of architects and engineers who have signed it—2,216 to date, and counting—'do not represent' the prevailing sentiment of either the architectural or engineering professions."

Elaborating, Gage notes, "Of those professionals who become aware of and open-mindedly examine the WTC evidence, it has been repeatedly discovered that 'controlled demolition' is the conclusion that they reach."

Gage continued, "In the past, debates have occurred where our opponents were not technical professionals. Consequently, they were allowed to skim over facts or develop explanations that were not consistent with either building structures, the laws of physics, or the evidence. In those cases, their misstatements have led to no professional repercussions. As a result, we feel it is appropriate to restrict this challenge to those who have 'skin in the game.'"

Newton's Three Laws of Motion

This Challenge is being brought to colleges and universities by 9/11 Truth Outreach because the conclusions of the NIST report defy Newton's Three Laws of Motion, and because NIST has not provided supporting materials to explain its rejection of those principles which the scientific community has relied upon for over three centuries. While any aspect of the NIST analysis can be covered during the debate, 9/11 Truth Outreach will focus on NIST's deviation from Newton's Three Laws of Motion, which are:

  1. An external force is needed to change an object's velocity (such as gravity).
  2. F=MA: The force exerted on an object is equal to its mass multiplied by the acceleration it is experiencing. (To fall towards earth unopposed by any upward force, the limit is gravitational acceleration with zero resistance.)
  3. Whenever two objects impact, they both impart an equal and opposite force upon the other. (For example, an upper section of a building impacting the section below will be subjected to the same impacting force, but in the opposite direction.)

The NIST NCSTAR 1A report is inconsistent with Newton's Laws. NCSTAR 1A concluded that even though this building was initially "at rest," it began moving and crushed itself (First Law, i.e., a body at rest remains at rest), and was still able to descend at the maximum gravitational acceleration (Second Law) as though nothing was resisting its fall (Third Law, i.e., an equal and opposing reaction force).

Figure 3-15 below from the NCSTAR 1A report illustrates the gravitational (free-fall) acceleration during "Stage 2." This acceleration requires that 100% of the potential energy be converted to kinetic energy at the fastest rate possible under the influence of earth's gravity.

By extending this challenge to colleges and universities, 9/11 Truth Outreach hopes to further educate students, faculty and the public about the importance of Newton's three laws of motion and their applicability to understanding the physical world. If NIST's collapse hypothesis (which posits WTC 7's subsequent structural disintegration, followed by free-fall acceleration of the intact structure) can be shown to be technically sound, then all steel framed buildings will need to be re-examined.

9/11 Truth Outreach, as the "Challenger of NIST," will discuss the flaws in the NCSTAR 1A report, present videos and other forensic analysis obtained from NIST's own files. The evidence for the use of an explosive controlled demolition to destroy WTC 7 will be presented.

9/11 Truth Outreach offers the following challenge:

A $500 Debate Challenge is hereby offered for a tenured professor of the physical sciences, architecture or engineering schools to publicly defend the integrity of the NIST NCSTAR 1A final report on WTC 7 in a debate exchange format with a licensed architect or professional engineer representing 9/11 Truth Outreach.

The challenge will be won by the side that has convinced more than 50% of the audience to either agree or disagree with the following statement: "The key questions raised by 9/11 Truth Outreach have been adequately addressed by NIST, and a new investigation regarding the destruction of WTC 7 would continue to support NIST's conclusions that WTC 7 was destroyed by a fire-induced, gravity-only progressive collapse. How many say 'Yes'? How many say 'No'?" A show of hands will be counted by the moderator.

Ground Rules

The challenge will be limited to a debate about the validity of NCSTAR 1A (November 2008). This will keep the discussion focused and allow time to adequately address the key issues - free-fall acceleration, symmetry, compactness of the pile, extreme temperatures, eyewitnesses, foreknowledge, and other evidence pointing to a controlled demolition.

Required Credentials for the Champions of NIST:

The debate is open to tenured professors in the schools of physical science, architecture or engineering in any state within the United States or in any province in Canada, if their college or university has an accredited architectural or engineering school.

Location:

The debate will be held on the campus of a college or university that has an accredited architectural or engineering school and is within an hour's drive of a major metropolitan area.

Moderator:

A debate moderator who is acceptable to both parties will be chosen.

Audience:

The attendance at the 9/11 Truth Outreach Debate Challenge will be open to students, faculty, and the general public. The doors will be closed once the debate has begun. All members of the audience who have listened to the entire debate may vote. The debate will be recorded for later broadcast.

Format:

The event, including questions from the audience, is anticipated to last about 90 minutes.

    • Each proponent will open with a five-minute introduction.
    • Each side will choose in advance five specific points to discuss. They should include an explanation either of the completeness or the shortcomings of the NCSTAR 1A final report, as well as such key topics as free-fall acceleration, symmetrical destruction, compactness of the pile, extreme heat, Appendix C of the FEMA report on WTC 7, and additional points of evidence.
    • Point #1 by the Champion of NIST: 3 minutes
    • Rebuttal by the Challenger of NIST (9/11 Truth Outreach): 3 minutes
    • Counter rebuttal by the Champion of NIST: 3 minutes
    • Final rebuttal by the Challenger of NIST (9/11 Truth Outreach): 3 minutes
    • Point #2, this time starting by the Challenger of NIST (9/11 Truth Outreach): 3 minutes

And so on through to point #5. In total, five points will be debated, each point for a total of 12 minutes, and the total debate time will be 60 minutes.

    • The audience will then have 20 minutes to ask questions.
    • The two sides will then close with final remarks lasting five minutes each.
    • In conclusion, the following "deciding question" will be posed by the moderator to the assembled audience:

"The key questions raised by 9/11 Truth Outreach have been adequately addressed by NIST, and a new investigation regarding the destruction of WTC 7 would continue to support NIST's conclusions that WTC 7 was destroyed by a fire-induced, gravity-only progressive collapse. How many say 'Yes'? How many say 'No'?" A show of hands will be counted by the moderator.

Judging:

If more than 50 percent of the audience agrees that a new investigation is warranted, 9/11 Truth Outreach, the Challenger of NIST, wins. Otherwise, the Champion of NIST wins.

Awarding of Charity Donation:

If the Champion of NIST prevails, its champion will designate a charity of their choice for the $500 donation. Otherwise, 9/11 Truth Outreach retains the honorarium in anticipation of another Champion of NIST stepping up to the plate.

Scheduling:

9/11 Truth Outreach will accept one proposal for a Challenge Debate in 2014, and three for 2015. A minimum lead time of four weeks will be required to make arrangements for each debate.

Proposals:

Proposals from prospective Champions of NIST can be submitted at 911TruthOutreach.org/debate and should contain the following information:

    • Full name and title, daytime and evening phone numbers, email address, city and state (or province) of work or residence
    • Professional biography/curriculum vitae
    • Proposed college or university venue, with a letter from the administration confirming the venue's availability for an audience of 100 to 200, and for at least three possible dates
    • Estimate of cost for auditorium rental
    • Estimate of costs (paid separately by each team) for transportation, accommodations, etc.

Proposals for the 2014 / 2015 school year will accepted through May 1, 2015.
