When Daniel Ellsberg initiated the campaign, Stand Up For Truth - An International Week to Support Whistleblowing, he said "Democracy needs truth-telling." A number of Connecticut residents concurred and responded to the organizer's appeal to "Please initiate Stand Up For Truth activities where you live" during the week of June 1-7, 2015. The result was an extended vigil for Saturday, June 6 at a location in West Hartford Center where vigils and rallies have been held for decades.
The Stand Up For Truth campaign was initiated by several organizations in the United States and Europe that are supportive of whistleblowers: ExposeFacts, Freedom of the Press Foundation, International Modern Media Institute, Networkers SouthNorth and RootsAction.org
In their appeal for action they said: "Democracy needs truth-telling.
People in many countries will create Stand Up For Truth activities during the week of June 1-7, 2015 -- to move toward a culture of openness and truth as well as security for those who take the risk of disclosing information that authorities want to keep hidden.
Democracy is based on informed consent of the governed. This is not possible when crucial (and sometimes illegal) government policies remain hidden from the public. Whistleblowing is essential for bringing such policies into the light: exposing key information related to human rights violations, corporate malfeasance, the environment, civil liberties and war.
We must stand up for a free press, individual privacy, governmental and corporate transparency, due process and rule of law as we seek to reveal official information that the public has a right to know. Persecution of whistleblowers and journalists is illegitimate and should be opposed as such.
While undemocratic authority thrives on secrecy, we should bring whistleblowing to the forefront of public consciousness -- in a process that widely encourages the release of documentation of governmental and corporate actions that cannot withstand the light of day."
Stand Up For Truth - West Hartford
The West Hartford Stand Up For Truth event was held to honor the many whistleblowers who have pointed out the misstatements, inconsistencies and errors regarding the official explanation for the destruction of the Twin Towers and Building 7 on September 11, 2001. A statement was read recounting the contributions by Richard Gage, AIA plus many of the over 2,300 architects and engineers that have signed a petition calling for a new investigation into the destruction of the World Trade Center skyscrapers citing evidence of controlled demolition.
Richard Gage and Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth, the organization he founded, have produced a whistleblowing documentary, "9/11: Explosive Evidence - Experts Speak Out," in which 43 high-rise architects, structural engineers, physicists, chemists and other professionals describe evidence showing why the official explanation (structural impact, followed by fires, followed by a complete gravity-only collapse) is incomplete, misleading and cannot be true. These individuals are all whistleblowers.
The organizations listed at the beginning of this article (among others) focus on valuable issues in which whistleblowers expose wrong-doing and help create more open, transparent governments around the world.
Unfortunately, with few exceptions, these organizations exclude the blockbuster evidence that underlies the falsehoods of 9/11 and what it implies for our governments, our media, our world and even our heroes.
The world needs more whistleblowers, such as Richard Gage, that are willing to let the world know that there are serious problems with the official story about 9/11. It is unfortunate that the Stand Up For Truth organizers choose to telegraph their acquiescence of the dominant culture's fraudulent version of 9/11, as well as ignore all those whistleblowers who at great personal sacrifice and risk are exposing the master lie.
Nevertheless, the Stand Up For Truth organizers should be commended for recognizing that the chairs on the Titanic are in need of rearranging – however they should be willing to blow the whistle about how 9/11 has ripped a gash through the fabric of our democracy. Without acknowledging that gash, the world we hope for will sink from sight.
It's easy to stand up for convenient truths. When are these truth gatekeepers going to stand up for inconvenient truths?
